Discuss normal work hours, building access and emergency procedures, phone and voicemail procedures, and purchasing instructions. Take employee/intern/volunteer to lunch or arrange for coworker to accompany them. Tour departments/offices/buildings they will visit frequently. Review assignments for day one and field questions. Provide an overview of assignments for week one. Discuss your management and leadership style; inform them re. how to approach you.
