NOTICE: Imprelis Ban

The Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling has announced a ban on certain materials being accepted at the County’s two Compost Facilities. Residents are advised that it is unlawful to include in yard waste any materials that have been treated with, or may have been affected by, the herbicide Imprelis. The ban includes grass clippings, vegetable or flower plants, brush, billets, logs, etc., that are known to have been, or are suspected of having been subject to Imprelis contact.

The Blair County Department of Solid Waste & Recycling continually strives to provide high-quality compost as well as two different grinds of mulch to our customers, be they County residents or commercial entities. Because of this, we appreciate your understanding of and cooperation with this ban.

NOTICE:  Beginning, February 3, 2012, the Blair County Compost Facility can no longer accept VHS tapes for recycling.   

Located near the Village of Buckhorn, the entrance is off of Blacksnake Road from the Skyline Drive intersection with Route 36.

Hours of Operation
Regular Hours:
Beginning the week of April 1, to the Saturday before Thanksgiving, 
days and hours of operation are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 10 am to 5 pm; 
Saturday, 9 am to 3 pm. 
The facility is closed every Wednesday and Sunday. 
We are also closed for County holidays* during these hours.

Winter Hours:
Our Winter Hours begin the 
Monday before Thanksgiving to the week of April 1. 
Days and hours of operation are:
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, 8 am to 4 pm.
The Facility is closed every Wednesday, Saturday, Sunday, 
all County holidays* and the first Monday and Tuesday following Thanksgiving.

*County holidays are: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents' Day, Good Friday, the General Primary, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, the General Election, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, Friday following Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and the day after Christmas.

The Compost Facility does NOT accept recyclable items that are dirty or have not been rinsed.  ALL ITEMS MUST BE RINSED AND CLEAN.  THANK YOU!
