Hiring Managers Department Supervisor Checklist Pre-Arrival Order/obtain supplies (e.g., name plate, keys, desk items). Send e-mail to Support to arrange for information technology needs. Send e-mail to Human Resources to schedule benefits and policy orientation. Deliver application materials packet to Human Resources. Create week-one schedule. Day One Welcome and introduce employee/intern/volunteer to department personnel. Show employee to his/her desk area. Show employee to kitchenette area, break room, closest restroom, copier, etc. Discuss department mission, leadership philosophy, customer service policies, and performance guidelines. Discuss normal work hours, building access and emergency procedures, phone and voicemail procedures, and purchasing instructions. Take employee/intern/volunteer to lunch or arrange for coworker to accompany him/her. Tour departments/offices/buildings he/she will visit frequently. Review assignments for day one and field questions. Provide an overview of assignments for week one. Discuss your management and leadership style; inform him/her how to approach you. Week One Hold a goal-setting meeting where you will also discuss performance review process and expectations. Verify all forms have been signed and return to benefits administrator. Verify the employee has completed required computer-delivered training. Notify Human Resources if training has not been completed. Call new hire/intern/volunteer to review when, where, what to bring to appointment with Human Resources. Send e-mail to Support to announce coming personnel. Send Department Supervisor Checklist to appropriate contact. Prepare entries in HR Connection and for weekly Status Notice spreadsheet. Prepare personnel file. During Benefits and Policy Orientation Meeting Greet and welcome employee/intern/volunteer. Introduce person to other staff within Human Resources Department. Conduct drug screening as appropriate. Provide welcome packet that includes information such as: Benefits summaries and HR Connection log-on information Employee Handbook and accompanying loose policies Job description to keep and one to sign and remain within Human Resources Timekeeping instructions Conduct basic tour of Courthouse. Week One Send mandatory computer-delivered training e-mail to employee/intern/volunteer. Contact to review forms or answer questions.
