Removing snow from Township roads is one of the most important jobs performed by our work crews. The Antis Township Public Works employees keep Township roads clean and safe following a snowfall by plowing roadways and using chemical treatments that melt snow and ice on the pavement.
Roads are cleaned in priority order, beginning first with major arteries, then moving to secondary roadways, and finally cleaning residential streets.
Employees make every effort to keep all Township roads clean, but in cases of unpredicted or quickly falling snow it may take time for crews to make it to residential roads. The Township is responsible for over 46 miles of roadway.
NOTE
Beginning with the 2007-2008 winter season, Antis Township will NOT be doing any winter maintenance on State roads in Antis Township. PENNDOT will be plowing and treating their own roadways. Any questions or concerns you might have regarding the condition of State roads in Antis Township should be brought up to PENNDOT directly.

Important things to keep in mind to ensure the winter season is
safe and enjoyable for everyone:
The Township is not responsible for damage to mailboxes caused by snowplows since mailboxes are erected on the right-of-way at the property owner's risk. Mailboxes shoud be placed as far from the right-of-way as possible and still permit access by mail carriers. Mailboxes should be placed on a "firm support."
PENNDOT offers suggestions to help reduce the possibliity of your mailbox being damaged by routine winter maintenance operations. Click HERE to read PENNDOT's tips.
During a snow emergency, all vehicles must be removed from the streets or they will be towed from the streets and highways in the Township for safe removal of the snow. A detailed snow ordinance is being developed, which will outline the responsibilities of the Township and residents during the snow season as well as during a snow emergency. Below are sections from the current Township ordinance:
Chapter 119
Section13
A. Within one hour after the commencement of each fall of snow in the Township of Antis, it shall be the duty of the owner, lessee or the operator of any vehicle which has been parked upon the street or highway in the Township to remove said vehicle from the public streets and highways of the Township.
B. The Township of Antis, through its authorized agents and employees, shall have the right to remove such vehicle by towing or other means, and the cost of such removal shall be collected from such owner, lessee or operator, in addition to the fine and costs hereinbefore set forth.
Residents are reminded that they are not to shovel snow into the street. This is a violation of the PA Motor Vehicle Code and it creates additional traffic safety concerns.
